Changes in Indonesian GDP Base Year 2008 Based SNA
December 31, 2014 | Other Activities
Changes
in the base year Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is a process that is
commonly done by the statistical office of a country to describe the
current economic conditions. BPS
has changed the base year GDP by 5 (five) times, namely in 1960, 1973,
1983, 1993, and 2000. Currently, BPS is conducting the process of
drafting changes to the base year GDP from 2000 to 2010. Thus, the
estimated GDP price constant will be based on the price in 2010. Changes
in the base year GDP in 2010 was different, because in addition to
changing the base year prices, at the same time also implement the
recommendations of the United Nations (UN) related to the concept, scope
and methodology contained in the System of National Accounts 2008 (SNA
2008) . Why base year GDP needs to be changed? Over the past ten years, many changes in the global order and locally very influential in the national economy. The global financial crisis or the application of free trade is an
example of the changes that need to be adapted in the national
statistical recording mechanism. One
form of adaptation is to change the base year GDP of Indonesia from
2000 to 2010 and the United Nations adopted the recommendations
contained in the SNA through the preparation of the Supply and Use
Tables (SUT) in 2010 as the basis for the calculation of GDP according
to three (3) approach to the production approach, expenditure and
revenue .
